Beautiful, Local, Edible Ocean Life

I volunteered at San Diego’s newest Tuna Harbor Dockside Market (THDM) Saturday morning. I had a great experience learning and seeing our local ocean creatures. It was also a pleasure to meet some of the fishermen, especially legend Pete Halmay, one of the first sea urchin divers in San Diego.  He and his team have created an environment for us to connect to our seafood and the people who provide it. I am very excited that San Diegans have direct access to, literally, “fresh catches”.

Fresh from the ocean!

The market is steadily growing. It started with just 1 booth when it opened in August. Now, it has six.

Whether you’re local or just visiting, check out the THDM. It is open every Saturday from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM; the line starts forming at 7:30 AM. There is free parking before 10:00 AM, so avoid making the mistake of parking in Sea Port Village (like I did) and paying $16.00. Oops.
